Hungary Quarry Aggregate Washing & Sand Plant 150 T/H

LZZG designed a complete aggregate washing and sand classification plant for Hungary customer. The 150 t/h production line washes quarry material and recovers saleable aggregate from overburden and waste excavation, producing graded coarse aggregate alongside separate coarse and fine sand products from a single HS sand washing machine.

Project Background

Hungary customer has operated the quarry since 2011. To expand into washed aggregate and stop discarding overburden material, the company needed a front-end-loader-fed wash plant: a hopper with heavy-duty grizzly, a vibrating screen, and an HS sand washing machine for the 0–5 mm fraction.

Required Products

Product Size Fraction
Oversize / reject +20 mm
Coarse aggregate 10–20 mm
Fine aggregate 5–10 mm
Coarse sand from HS washer
Fine sand from HS washer

Main plant capacity: minimum 150 t/h.

Core Production Process

aggregate washing

①. Front-end loader → Hopper with heavy-duty grizzly → Vibrating screen → HS sand washing machine

②. Wash-water overflow → Thickener → Clear water recycled

③. Thickener underflow → Flocculant dosing → Filter press → Sludge cake for disposal

The vibrating screen first splits the coarse aggregate fractions (+20 mm reject, 10–20 mm, 5–10 mm) while wetting the feed. The 0–5 mm fraction then goes to the LZZG HS sand washing machine, which washes, classifies and dewaters the sand in one unit and directly discharges two products — coarse sand and fine sand. A downstream blending point mixes the two to hit the required concrete-sand gradation.

Process water goes to a thickener rather than settling ponds. Clarified water returns to the wash plant; underflow is dosed with flocculant and dewatered in a filter press for disposal.

The sand washing plant had to handle two feed conditions on one line:

  • Feed 1 (normal production): the design basis at 150 t/h, with 7% passing 0.075 mm.
  • Feed 2 (high-fines): a much dirtier feed at 20% passing 0.075 mm. Throughput could drop, but finished sand still had to stay below 3% passing 0.075 mm.

The quarry plant runs on 400 V / 50 Hz / 3-phase CENELEC / IEC, and the make-up pump lifts water through a 200 m pipeline with a 26.5 m static head.

Why the HS Sand Washing Machine

Rather than a separate hydrocyclone and dewatering screen train, the 0–5 mm fraction goes to the LZZG HS sand washing machine. It washes, classifies and dewaters in one unit and directly produces two sand products (coarse and fine), which keeps the plant compact and easier for the site crew to operate. The downstream blending point then tunes the mix to the concrete-sand gradation.
