Reasons And Solutions for The Rapid Wear of Ball Mill Liner

As an important part of the ball mill, the ball mill liner can not only effectively protect the ball mill barrel, but also enhance the impact and grinding between the medium and the material, thereby improving the grinding efficiency. In the production process, many ball mill linings wear too fast under the long-term action of the grinding medium. So, what are the reasons for the rapid wear of the ball mill liner? How should it be solved?

1. Mutual wear between the liner and the steel ball

Ball mill liner and steel balls are wearing parts. During the grinding process, the steel balls and materials of the ball mill make a parabolic falling motion in the cylinder. At this time, the lining plate of the ball mill, the steel balls, and the materials will collide with each other to produce friction. In continuous operation, the lining plate and steel ball of the ball mill will be seriously worn, which is directly related to the hardness of the material. The greater the hardness of the material, the faster the wear rate of the ball mill liner and steel balls, which may cause equipment damage or even safety accidents in severe cases.

Solutions

a. Control the hardness of the ball mill liner and the steel ball, and do a reasonable match between the liner and the steel ball. In general, the hardness ratio of the lining plate and steel ball of a conventional ball mill is about 1:0.8.

b. Control the filling rate of the ball mill and the ratio of steel balls.

2. The unreasonable lining material

The material of the ball mill liner and its heat treatment process are the keys to determining the mechanical properties of the ball mill liner. Improper selection of the material of the liner will greatly reduce its fatigue strength and life, not only unable to meet the working requirements of the ball mill, but even plastic deformation or bulging.

Solutions

Choose new wear-resistant liner material. The commonly used ball mill liner materials are high manganese steel, high chromium steel, alloy steel, and wear-resistant rubber.

3. Unreasonable lining heat treatment process

The unreasonable heat treatment of the ball mill lining plate will not only aggravate the wear of the lining plate, but also affect the yield strength of the lining plate, resulting in the fracture of the fixing bolts of the ball mill lining plate under the action of large shear force.

Solutions

Preheating the ball mill liner can effectively reduce the wear degree of the ball mill liner. In actual production, a suitable preheating process can be selected according to the material of the lining plate.

4. Ball mill running abnormally

When the ball mill is in an abnormal operating state, it will also bring adverse effects to the ball mill liner. When the ball mill is running at a low load, the steel balls will directly impact the lining plate, causing serious wear and even breakage of the ball mill lining plate.

Solutions

The ball mill staff needs to adjust in time according to the running state of the ball mill. When the ball mill is running under a low load state, the ore input of the ball mill should be adjusted in time to ensure the processing capacity of the mill.

In addition to the above four causes of wear, the design, manufacture, and installation of the ball mill liner are also the reasons that may cause the ball mill liner to wear too fast. In order to improve the use efficiency of the ball mill liner, it is necessary to analyze the cause of the wear of the liner in order to formulate a reasonable solution.
