Application Of Spiral Chute In Iron Ore Dressing

The spiral chute is a type of gravity separation equipment that plays a crucial role in iron ore processing. It can be used to separate weakly magnetic iron ore and also to separate strongly magnetic iron ore.

1. Application in the hematite gravity separation process

The spiral chute was first used in the beneficiation of weakly magnetic iron ore in Anshan Ore Dressing Plant. The plant transformed the process flow to address the problem of low hematite selection index at that time. After the transformation, the weak magnetic tail was classified by cyclone, the sand was separated by spiral chute, and the overflow was separated by three-stage centrifuge. After the spiral chute was used, the selection index was significantly improved. In particular, the concentrate grade increased from the original 57% to more than 64%.

2. Application in the grinding process of lean magnetite

The magnetite concentrator utilizes the magnetic separation process to capitalize on the natural magnetic properties of magnetite. However, in addition to magnetism, magnetite also has a natural specific gravity difference with gangue. Because in the stage grinding process, the rough grinding stage must be graded and sorted, and the iron minerals and gangue that have reached monomer dissociation must be sorted out in advance. It is known from practice that the magnetic separation equipment can achieve a relatively satisfactory separation effect for 0.074 mm. However, the separation results of the magnetic separation equipment in the 0.074mm-o.3mm particle size are not good. This is because magnetic separation is mostly two products, and some conjoined bodies are either mixed into the concentrate or into the tailings, so the mineral processing index is not high.

3. Application in high-intensity magnetic gravity separation process

When the recovery rate of red ore is low, the process of stage grinding and strong magnetic gravity separation can be adopted. That is, after the ore is ground and separated by strong magnetic separation, the spiral chute is used in conjunction with the fine screen to significantly increase the concentrate grade and yield.

Therefore, the spiral chute should be used reasonably ,and its structural parameters should be further improved, such as developing a variety of spiral chute layers, adding baffles in the spiral chute, etc. Its operating parameters should be improved, such as selecting a suitable feed concentration, controlling the feed particle size, etc. Then, the spiral chute will play a greater role in iron ore beneficiation.
