What Are The Solutions For Belt Conveyor Belt Misalignment?

The causes of belt misalignment in conveyor belts are complex and may require various adjustment methods. It is recommended that ore processing plants purchase conveyor belts from professional manufacturers to ensure high-quality products. The following are some solutions for conveyor belt misalignment.

What are the solutions for belt conveyor belt misalignment?

1. Adjusting the idler roller assembly

If the belt deviates to one side during operation, it indicates that there is an error in the perpendicularity of the installation position of the load-bearing idler group to the center line.  Automatic self-aligning idler sets can be installed for adjustment. Generally, one set is installed every 20-30 meters. Alternatively, the position of the idler roller assembly can be adjusted using the adjustment holes on the longitudinal beam to solve the problem of misalignment.

2. Adjusting the rotating drum and the redirecting drum

If the belt runs off-center at the unloading roller at the head of the machine, adjust the roller shaft on the side of the belt that is running slightly forward in the direction of belt travel (by adjusting the adjusting bolts on both sides of the roller). If the belt runs off-center at the reversing roller at the tail of the machine, move the roller on the side of the belt that is running loose forward in the direction of the return belt travel (by adjusting the bolts). If belt misalignment occurs on the drive roller and the reversing roller in the belt storage bin, refer to the adjustment method for the unloading roller at the head of the machine for handling.

3. Adjust tension

In addition to being perpendicular to the length of the belt, the redirecting roller at the tensioning point should also ensure that its axis centerline is horizontal. When using a hydraulic cylinder for tensioning, the bearing housing of the tensioning roller should move simultaneously to ensure that the roller axis is perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the belt. If the belt tension is insufficient during belt conveyor operation, the belt will not deviate when unloaded or under light load, but will deviate under slightly heavier loads. Therefore, a suitable tensioning device must be selected to ensure sufficient belt tension.

4. Adjust the material drop position at the transfer point

The material drop position at the transfer point has a significant impact on belt misalignment. The relative height of the upper and lower belt conveyors at the transfer point should generally be considered. A lower relative height results in a larger horizontal velocity component of the material, leading to greater lateral impact on the lower belt. This makes it difficult for the material to stay centered, causing it to skew and resulting in belt misalignment. Therefore, baffles can be added to block the material and change its falling direction and position.
