Deep cone sludge thickener design

The thickening tank of a sludge thickener can be made of reinforced concrete or steel. The thickening tank consists of a straight-walled section, a cone-shaped section, and a sludge collection pit. The characteristic of a small deep cone thickener is that the height of the cone-shaped thickening tank is greater than its diameter. In order for a large-diameter deep cone thickener to produce high-concentration slurry, the height of the straight wall section of the thickener and the appropriate cone angle can be set appropriately. According to sedimentation theory, the sedimentation of concentrated slurry in a deep cone thickener consists of four zones, from top to bottom: the clarified water zone, the initial concentration zone, the transition zone, and the compression zone. To ensure sufficient clarification zone height and increase sedimentation time, a high-concentration thickener with straight walls is generally required to supply the necessary compression layer depth and volume for generating high-concentration slurry, thus obtaining high-concentration underflow. The height of the straight-wall section of a large-diameter deep cone thickener is generally greater than 4 meters. Small deep cone thickeners have a single-angle cone, typically ranging from 30° to 60°. Large-diameter deep cone thickeners generally accept cones with varying slopes, meaning the outer cone angle is 30° to 40°, the inner cone angle is 45° to 55°, and the sludge collection pit cone angle is 60° to 65°.
