1. Screen Width and Length

Under normal circumstances, the screen width determines the vibrating screen’s processing capacity. The wider the screen, the greater the processing capacity. The screen length determines the screening efficiency. The longer the screen, the higher the efficiency. For vibrating screens, increasing the width is often limited by the strength of the screen frame structure. Generally, a larger width shortens the screen frame life. A screen’s processing capacity and screening efficiency are interdependent and must be considered simultaneously. Generally, after determining the screen width, the screen length is determined based on the aspect ratio. The aspect ratio of mining vibrating screens in my country is 2, and the width ratio of coal vibrating screens is 2.5.

2. Screen angle

To facilitate the discharge of material, the screen surface is tilted. The angle of inclination is closely related to the screen’s productivity and screening efficiency. A larger inclination angle shortens the time the material stays on the screen surface, reducing the chances of particles penetrating and reducing screening efficiency.

3. Mesh Size, Shape, and Opening Ratio

Larger mesh sizes increase the processing capacity per unit screen area and improve screening efficiency. The mesh size primarily depends on the purpose and requirements of the screening. For conventional screens with larger particle sizes, the mesh size is typically equal to the screen size. However, when the desired screen size is smaller, the vibrating screen mesh should be slightly larger than the screen size. The undersize obtained with round and square meshes is relatively regular in shape, while flake and strip-shaped particles tend to leak through rectangular meshes. Therefore, rectangular meshes are typically made smaller.
